My Grandfather 1879, Tom Hedley Adams his second wife, Kate Webb; My father's sisters, Miriam Florence, b 1900, who married Dai Francis and Grace b c1902, who married Edward Carpenter, (their son John and his family still live in the Forest) in the back. My father William Hedley, b1910 and their half brother, Herbert, b1914, in the front.

Grandad, born in West Dean 1879, went to Wales in his late teens for work and married his first wife, Sarah Florence Johnson, there. They had seven children 4 of whom died in early childhood. Sarah died when my father was 7 months old. Grandad remarried in 1914 and later went back to West Dean and lived in 'Pansy Cottage', Berry hill. He bought the house about 1916. The house is still there. His brother Frank lived in the house next door.
