Eric T Morse Singapore c1937

This is my late father as a young man. Eric Thomas Morse was born 15th July 1916
at Buckshaft. He was the son of James Wiiliam Morse and Caroline (nee Wright).
Eric was one of eight siblings born between 1900 and 1920. He joined the Royal
Artillery in 1936 as a career soldier. This photo was taken c1937 when he was
stationed at Changi, Singapore with 348 Heavy Battery. He was invalided out of
the army in 1941 due to an incident on Salisbury Plain. Seeing two bombs falling
he jumped onto the Lewis gun and managed to shoot one of the bombs in the air.
Unfortunately he lost sight of the second bomb which fell close enough to burst
his eardrum. He was discharged with the rank of Sergeant.
