Thomas and Helena Watkins 1871
Thomas Watkins snr was born at Woodside and baptised on 7 May 1826 at Parkend
church, son of William Watkins and Elizabeth James who married 19 Apr 1823 at
Newland. They were both widowed at the time of their marriage. William died not
long after, and Elizabeth had another 2 or 3 husbands after this. She certainly
did not let the grass grow under her feet but it was probably from economic
necessity.
Thomas married Helena Kear 5 Feb 1849 and were living at Bream Woodside in
the 1851 census. They later moved to the Blaenavon area of Wales. Thomas
was a miner - of iron in 1851 and later coal.
