My great grandfather, Thomas Reed Matthews, was born in Ruardean Hill on July 21, 1867, came to the U.S. around 1891or 1892 and settled in Oglesby, Illinois. He died on September 20, 1919, and is buried in the Oakwood Cemetery in LaSalle, Illinois. His parents were Thomas Matthews, son of Elijah Matthews and Harriet Bannister, and Eliza Reed, daughter of James Reed and Letitia Yemm.
