Rosen's Bag - Front
This is an image of a paper bag found in the central part of the shop in Coleford depicted (now converted into 3 shops).
My father, Tom Adams, was apprenticed to this trade at the age of ten, in 1884, and worked in the Coleford shop, eventually becoming the manager. Probably in the late 1890's he was transferred to the Lydney branch of Rosens again as manager.
He later left Rosens to join Mr W W Hastie of Lydney as a partner in a men's outfitting and boot and shoe business, trading under the name of Hastie and Adams. He remained in Lydney until 1916 when he moved to Berry Hill, Coleford and opened a similar business there.
